Keeping unused opioids places others at risk

KEY POINT

Many patients prescribed opioids for acute pain planned to keep unused opioids for a variety of reasons, including in case they needed these drugs in the future for a medical condition, until the medication expired, or because they were unsure of how to dispose of opioids, according to data from an observational study published in Pain Medicine.
